Petank Party just hit the Xbox Live Market. We finished the Xbox360 version and it is now under the Community Games section on the Xbox Live.
Of course you can play networked game through the xbox live which is pretty cool. There is a few additions too compared to the PC version as xbox owners gets more customisations for their characters.
Also, Xnplay.co.uk has a short and nice article/review about the release on the 360 saying:
“In any event, if you’re itching for a game of pétanque, you can’t go far wrong with this. Easy-to-use controls that don’t dumb down strategy, player customization, slick presentation, ‘magic balls’ or traditional play - these all enhance the package.”
“On 10/29 Xbox LIVE Community Games and XNA Game Studio 3.0 threw a launch event to offer the press and some lucky individuals in the Bay area a sneak peek into what is in store for them when the Community Games channel launches with the New Xbox Experience on 11/19.
The attendees ate and drank while playing some of the best games created by our amazing community of developers. Guests were also able to play the top 20 Dream.Build.Play games and get a real sense of the caliber of games being created with XNA Game Studio all around the world.”
This is a 4 minutes long footage of a round played against a team made of Roxo and Simba played by the Petank Party AI.
In the game there is 3 levels of AI:
- beginner, for people that start playing the game or casual gamers
- intermediate, for folks like me that playe a lot but still can beat the AI
- pro, for the hardcore gamer, for the guy that needs a real real challenge…
So here is a round i played against the computer at Intermediate level.
It all starts ok, until after a few throws when Simba decide to drop an explosive ball and clear the ground of all balls, my two points are gone…
Still decided to win the battle, I managed to get a ball fairly close to the jack. Thats when Roxo play an ‘attract jack’ magic ball and gets two balls close to the jack… Still thinking i can win this round i play a ‘magnetic ball’ and almost gets 2 points back, but the AI is still winning the round. Thats when i decide to play bowling with my last ball and try to get lucky. Even though thats a really bad tactic in Petanque it works in that case! But this was my last ball and Roxo manage to shot my balls and score a final point with his last ball.
After reading the excellent interview of Shawn Hargreaves’s cat on Nazeeh’s blog i came to realise that we too had transformed a cat and shoved it into cyberspace somehow… Isn’t it weird that cats that live with us end up in our creations ? Do they play a part in the grandeur alien scheme ?
I mean they’re the worst; they lose hair all over the desk, they sit on keyboards, they jump and sit on your warm chair as soon as you leave the room, we even caught Simba casualy typing:’gyuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu’ in one of our tasks list !
